[영등포방송] 주한외국인들로 구성된 Camarata 합창단의 메시아 공연이 지난 12월 5일 영등포구 당산동에 위치한 예수 그리스도 후기성도 교회 (몰몬) 에서 교회 회원, 지역주민과 초청인사들이 함께한 가운데 성황리에 열렸다. “대단한 음악회였습니다. 감동입니다. 또한 이렇게 큰 외국인 합창단과 오케스트라가 있다는 사실에도 놀랐습니다.” 음악회에 참석한 정진태 장군(전한미연합사 부사령관, 예비역 육군대장)의 이야기다.
지휘자 라이안 게슬 (Ryan Goessl) 박사가 지휘하는 카마라타 합창단은 이날 공연에서 4명의 솔로를 포함한 합창단 81명과 오케스트라 30명으로 구성되어 아름다운 연주를 하였다.
62여개 국가에서 온 다양한 국적의 사람들이 모여서 2009년 창단한 카마라타는 그동안 KBS, TBS, CGN, 아리랑 TV 등에도 출연한 바 있다. 특히 이명박 대통령시절 청와대에서 초청공연을 갖기도 했다.
이 공연에서 교회의 지역칠십인 구승훈 장로(공명이엔씨 대표)와 서울남스테이크 권영준 회장(서울대학교 법대 교수)등 다수의 회원들이 참석하였고, 박근혜 대통령의 해외순방 수행중인 지역구 김영주 의원을 대신하여 참석한 영등포구의회 고기판 의원과 국제피플투피플 한국본부 김길연 총재, 자랑스런 서울시민상을 수상한 바 있는 멕케니 컨설팅의 스티븐 맥케니 대표, 전 해병대사령관 김명환 한국군사문제 연구위원, 윤봉길 의사 기념사업회 정진태 이사장 (예비역 육군대장, 전 한미연합사 부사령관), 정동윤 유에스 헬스케어시스템 대표, 셔먼 그랜디 주한미국대사관 이민비자과장, 듀이 무어 서기관과 이웃 주민들이 참석하였다.
'카마라타 합창단'이 할렐루야(Halleluja!)를 부를때는 모든 관객이 일어나서 5분 이상 박수를 보내며 경의를 표하기도했다. 음악회 사회를 본 허용환 홍보위원은 “ 2013년보다 지역주민들이 적게 참석해서 아쉽다며, 교회는 지역사회와 함께 많은 것을 하고 싶습니다. 다음 공연때는 영등포구민들이 더 많이 참석할 수 있도록 영등포신문의 적극적인 협조도 당부했다.
예수그리스도 후기 성도 교회는 예수 그리스도의 중심 사명에 대한 신앙을 고취시키기 위한 전형적인 도구로서 성스러운 기독교 음악을 오랫동안 후원해 오고 있다. 이를테면 교회의 공식 합창단인 전 세계적으로 유명한 몰몬 태버내클 합창단이 1929년부터 매주 라디오 또는 텔레비전 방송을 해오고 있다. 이 프로그램은 전 세계에서 가장 오랫동안 연속적으로 방송을 하는 것으로 명성이 높은 프로그램이다.
Sounds of the season - LDS Church sponsors “Handel’s Messiah” concert for the community
Camarata Music Company’s (Director Dr. Ryan Goessl) Chorale, orchestra, and professional soloists presented Handel’s Messiah this past Saturday afternoon on December 5, 2015, at the Youngdeunpo Ward (Chapel) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Christmas comes with music first. I was so impressed with the wonderful music presented by Camarata. I didn’t know that we have such a big and excellent choir and orchestra mainly consists of foreigners living in Seoul. I had a great time and felt a special spirit.” said one of the audience, a retired General Cheong, Jin Tae, former Deputy Commanding General of the ROK-US Combined Forces. The Mormon Church also invited Camarata two years ago for the underprivileged neighbors in the District of Youngdeungpo. “Inspiring music may fill the soul with heavenly thoughts, move one to righteous action, or speak peace to the soul.” Hubert Huh, a Community Relations Director for the Church in Korea used a quote by one of the Church’s previous leaders, President Ezra Taft Benson. Huh continued “ We believe music has boundless powers for moving families toward greater spirituality and devotion to the gospel and we’re always try hard to fill our homes with the sound of worthy music. This is so wonderful that we could open the concert for our friends and neighbors.” The performance featured the Camarata Chorale, an amateur singing group made up of members from over 62 different countries since its inception. Other special guests included Messiah soloists: Soprano, Seung Hee Cha; Counter Tenor, Yohan Cho; Tenor, Dal Jin Kim; and Bass, Hyoung Tae Kim.
